How Imagery Can Boost Your Brand

You’ve heard it everywhere: Google rewards sites that produce relevant, original, and information-rich content written with users in mind. What many of these articles don’t focus on is the importance of incorporating visuals, whether through photographs or video, to your remarkable, user-friendly content.


Smartphones have made it easier than ever for everyday people to become amateur photographers. Of all the phones in the world, 83% of these have a camera; this means 4.4 billion cameras are constantly hooked up to the network and able to be used on the go.

Take a look at our social media! Many of these sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram are highly dominated by visual content or revolve around it all together. Facebook has 14.58 million photo uploads per hour. Images account for more than 1/3 of all shared links on Twitter. Pinterest is completely dominated by images, and it’s one of the fastest growing platforms with over 70 million users after only 3 years since its inception. Instagram has 150 million monthly active users, and it has only been around since 2010.

People just love images!


There’s a reason why we are so drawn to visuals; it’s in our chemical makeup. We were born that way, baby. Of all the information transmitted to the brain on a daily basis, 90% of this is visual. And images are processed in the brain 60,000 times faster than text. Visuals make our brains happy. They can also make your potential customers and loyal clients happy.

But it seems kind of obvious doesn’t it? Who wants to open a website, only to be faced with a bright, white, terrifying wall of text? It’s daunting. It’s intimidating. It haunts your dreams. Well, maybe we wouldn’t go that far, but it’s certainly not something that you want to devote 5 or 10 minutes of your life looking at. Our brains are put much more at ease when text-driven content is broken up by great images that enhance its meaning. Visuals add color, movement, excitement, and emotion. They put a story behind your text and give it a face. By adding photos and video to your marketing campaign, whether by tweeting some office pictures or adding exciting photos to your blog articles, you can excite and intrigue your potential customers, leaving them wanting more. They will recognize your company not only as one who provides excellent content, but one who taps into their emotions and truly attempts to understand them as people with needs that they can help solve.


Using photo-sharing platforms is a great way to connect with your users. Pictures say a thousand words, and this can come in handy when we are often faced with a 140 character limit. Your written content might be great, but it’s not as great as it could be if you’re not adding some awesome pictures and video to go along with it.
