As you’ve probably heard, the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) began this week in Las Vegas, and with over 3,000 different exhibitors there sure is a lot to see in terms of new and exciting tech innovation. For two days now, vendors such as Samsung, T-Mobile, and Toyota have been showing off their latest and greatest inventions — some a little wackier than others! We wanted to give you a look into what some of the brightest minds in the industry are coming up with, even though some of the gadgets might just cause some serious eye rolling. Take a look at ten of the strangest and most out there products featured at CES 2014!
YELLOW JACKET IPHONE STUN GUN
Protection against violent predators? There’s an app for that. Well, not so much an app as the entire phone. It’s true, Yellow Jacket has created a phone case (for only $150) that protects your phone and your life. It charges it too! Right now, it is only available for the iPhone 4 and 4s, but come February, you can own one for your iPhone 5. Rest assured, this little baby packs a mean punch.
We know what you’re thinking. Phone? Soap? Can I hop in the shower now and wash myself with my iPhone 5? Not quite. The PhoneSoap Charger is a charger that uses UV light to kill germs on your phone. A little odd, definitely, but studies show that your phone is an absolutely disgusting place. The UV light in this little charger passes through your phone and annihilates any bacteria, and the great part? It only takes 4 minutes. The device is completely universal and it even serves as an acoustic sound amplifier so you can jam out while you fight disease.
The Poppy 3D is a little strange, but it’s definitely pretty cool as well. In a few words, this device turns your iPhone into a 3D camera. When you hook the device up to your iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C, or 5S, it allows your iPhone camera to take two separate photos and combines them to give you a 3D image or video. Turn the device one way and you can view your masterpieces; turn it the other and you can create them. It’s a little bulky and kind of looks like an 80s View-Master toy, but the concept is pretty creative.
The TrewGrip Keyboard has been getting quite a bit of grief from bloggers. It’s definitely not your average keyboard; the standard QWERTY keys are split down the middle, rotated, and located on the back of the device, so you can place your phone in the middle and use both hands to type. Geez, it’s even kind of awkward to describe. We aren’t convinced yet that this new keyboard is any better than the standard keyboard, but it sure is something to keep an eye on, even if only for its sheer strangeness.
RAZER’S PROJECT CHRISTINE
Project Christine is a new concept design (that’s right, it doesn’t exist yet) that will allow users to build and customize PCs with absolutely zero technical knowledge. Say what!? Christine is a vertical box that allows you to literally plug in different modules depending on what features are most important to your needs. Each module has its own cooling system as well, so Christine doesn’t overheat. And it’s pretty future-proof; whenever you need more storage or graphics processing power, simply unplug the module you have and plug in your new one! You might have to see it to believe it, but Razer’s Project Christine has our interest.
This little, electric, three-wheeled car is a concept design that’s unlike anything we’ve seen on the roads. It’s kind of like a car/motorcycle/Vespa/golf cart of the future and it would make traveling through tight cities a cinch. This vehicle is great for the motorcycle fan who doesn’t like to mess up their hair — no helmet is required and it’s completely enclosed. And two people can fit inside of it!
Brushing your teeth just got more intricate. The Kolibree Smart Toothbrush is just what it sounds like: a toothbrush that analyzes your brushing routine. It wirelessly tracks your tooth brushing habits via bluetooth so that you can check how well or how badly you take care of your oral hygiene on your mobile phone. A bit over the top? Maybe. But for those who simply do not understand how to properly brush their teeth, it may prove to be helpful and give them a whiter smile!
This device looks and sounds a little creepy, but it might actually prove to be handy, especially for people who are always on the move — physically and mentally. Mother is a small, Matroyshka doll looking thing that comes with 4 wireless trackers that can be used for a whole variety of things. You can place a tracker on one of your children and have it send you an email alert when they arrive home for the night. You can drop a tracker into a bottle of water and have it tell you how much you drink in a day or to remind you to drink more. The possibilities are vast. Mother comes with 4 trackers, but it can support up to 24, so you can pretty much track everything you do. Again, borderline creepy, but we can definitely see its merits.
Ok, so this isn’t actually a Kindle that was meant for chopping vegetables. It’s actually a super scratch-resistant screen guard for your Kindle that is tough enough to even withstand the sharp jabs and slices of a kitchen knife as it chops your celery or cuts your tomatoes. The wackiness of this product was all in the display. But hey! If you want to use your Kindle as a chopping board, now you can!
IGROW LASER HELMET
Balding men, rejoice! iGrow has invented a helmet that stimulates men’s natural hair growth through low level light therapy. The helmet is specifically designed for men suffering from androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness), and it is suggested that the laser lights stimulate the aging cells, making them more active and giving you more hair. This is pretty out there, but it also can definitely help out those that suffer from the condition!
THE SHOW’S NOT OVER
International CES always brings some awesome and interesting toys that we get way too excited about. And it’s only day 3! The show progresses through tomorrow, January 10th, so keep watching to see what other crazy and amazing things are showcased. We’ll definitely be looking out!
